FAQ’S
When will I receive my child’s test results?
Your child’s test will likely take 4 to 24 hours to complete.
How will I hear about my child’s results?
Results will be in MyChart as soon as they are received. If you are not signed up for
MyChart and would like to be, please call our front desk staff and they will assist you. If
you cannot access your results through MyChart, we will call you during business hours with
your result.
Isolation Guidance:
If your child’s result is positive, please follow the isolation guidance from the MA DPH and CDC available in more detail here:
- Stay home for 5 days. If your child can not reliably wear a mask around others, they should stay home for 10 days.
- If your child has not symptoms or their symptoms are resolving after 5 days, they can leave the house. If your child has a fever, they should continue to stay home until the fever resolves.
- Your child should continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
- Your child should not exercise for at least 5 days AND until their symptoms have resolved.
Is the 5 days of isolation from symptom onset or positive test?
The 5 days of isolation starts with the date of onset of symptoms as day zero. If your
child does not have symptoms, they should isolate for 5 days from the positive test result.
What should I do while I’m waiting for my child’s test results?
Your provider tested your child for COVID-19 because he or she felt that, due to your
child’s symptoms or other risk factors, your child could potentially have the virus.
Therefore, your child should stay home until the test result is back and try to keep their
distance from others as much as possible.
What if my child was exposed to someone who was positive for COVID but has no symptoms?
If your child was exposed to someone with COVID, they do not need to quarantine as long as they remain without symptoms, regardless of their vaccination status. Your child must wear a mask any time they are around others inside your home or indoors in public for the 10 days following their exposure, unless they are unable to mask due to age or medical or behavioral condition.
If your child was exposed and develops symptoms at any time, have them isolate and take a test and stay home until you know the result. If the result is positive, follow isolation protocols. If their test is negative or if they have remained asymptomatic, they should test on day 6.
- If they have not had COVID-19 in the last 90 days, they can test with either a rapid antigen or PCR test.
- People who had COVID-19 in the last 90 days should test with a rapid antigen test, not a PCR test.
- People who had COVID-19 in the last 30 days are not recommended to test on day 6 but should use a rapid antigen test if they develop any symptoms.
If you test positive, follow Isolation Guidance. For more information, please see CDC COVID-19 Exposure Guidance.
When should I call the office or seek further evaluation?
If your child has fever over 100.4 for more than 3 days, more than one week of muscle
aches, fatigue or chills, or if their symptoms worsen, please call the office. If at any time
your child experiences shortness of breath, severe chest pain or other signs of distress,
call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
Holliston Pediatric Group recommends medical evaluation of athletes ages 12 and older who have had a positive COVID19 test, whether or not they are symptomatic, to evaluate their risk for myocarditis (inflammation of the heart). Individuals who test positive for COVID should not exercise until they are cleared by a physician. Please schedule an evaluation with our office at at least 5 days after symptom onset OR a positive test result for medical clearance.
